What It Takes To Be A Billionaire?

Someone has said it correctly, ” All that a person needs is a billion dollars.”

There are thousands of billionaires on the list of World Billionaires, an annual ranking system that is calculated on the net worth of the world’s wealthiest billionaires. Published by Forbes, a business magazine , the list of billionaires was first published in the month of March 1987. The net worth of each of the billionaires is documented in their assets and debts, and the money is cited in dollars . The Royals are excluded from the list as their wealth comes from the positions they hold. In the year 2018, 2208 people were on the list who around 259 people entered the list for the first time along with a record number of women. The  total value of all the billionaires compiled together adds up to 9 trillion U.S. dollars, a few trillion dollars more from 2017. The Microsoft founder, Bill Gates, has been the most consistent and has been on the top of the list eight times.

Different Methods of Selecting a Billionaire

A team of reporters from all over the world  is employed by Forbes to track the activities of the richest people of the world. However, it is not an easy task. According to Forbes, some people  refuse to let in the details, some inflate their own wealth and the co-operating ones leave out important details. Values of assets that include land, vehicles, homes etc. go for estimation. Then they are cross-checked by interviews and scrutiny.

A majority of the people who are self made make it to the list of the world’s richest people by building business empires in different fields ranging from sports to technology and fashion to finance.
